Book Battle 2011-2012

13 students have joined the Book Battle club this year.  Overall there is a positive feeling about the books on the list.  At the meeting on 9-15-2011 the club listened to the interview by the author of the book Moon Over Manifest.  Students have enjoyed Shifter and Jane In Bloom the most so far.  Many members commented about Eighth Grade Bites and Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry which have been on the list before.

Book Battle

On May 10th the Book Battle Team from Hazelwood North Middle competed in the Area Wide Book Battle at Pattonville Heights Middle School.
This is the team right before boarding the bus for the field trip.

This is the gym with the teams assembled for the competition.

Heather Brewer, author of the Vladimir Tod books spoke to the group.

She is sporting purple hair this year.

James Dashner, author of the Maze Runner, also spoke to the group.

North finished at the bottom of the leader board, but in the top half of all the schools.

After the competition we lunched at McDonalds.

The students seem to think that this was the best part.  But, I believe they will remember the books they read for a long long time.

Top Readers, January 10, 2011

On Monday the library hosted a little gathering.  It was for the top readers in the school.  Dr. B brought milk and cookies.
The top readers shared their motivations for reading.

They had some suggestions for encouraging others to read.

They liked the milk and cookies.

They were an assorted bunch.

All of these students have read over 8000 pages this school year.

All of these kids are in the Book Battle Club also.
